# How much does a lawyer cost in Georgia?

**The short answer.** A first consultation with a lawyer in Georgia usually costs between GEL 100 and GEL 300. ## What you pay for

-   The consultation: about an hour, by video or in person, for the lawyer to understand your case and explain your options. This is the figure lawyers publish.
    
-   The matter: drafting, registering, representing you before an authority or a court. Lawyers price it as a fixed fee for a defined task, by the hour, or by court stage. Ask which.
    
-   State fees: registration, notary and court fees are paid on top of the lawyer's fee; ask the lawyer what they come to in your matter.
    

## What changes the price

**The field:** a residence permit or a company registration is a defined task; a court case is not.  
**The language:** most specialists on legal.ge work in English and many in Russian, so work in either rarely costs extra, but ask.  
**Urgency and travel:** a hearing in another city or a same-day filing costs more.

Ask for the consultation fee before you meet, and then for a written estimate of the whole matter: what is included, what is not, and the state fees.
