## Relations with the supervisory organ: instructions, inspections, sanctions

For a subject operating in the financial sector, supervision is a daily reality rather than an exceptional measure. For providers of virtual asset services this relationship is defined by the organic law of Georgia on the National Bank: the Bank ensures supervision — through registration and its cancellation, inspection and regulation, the issuance of written instructions, and the imposition of additional requirements, restrictions and sanctions. On this page we explain what this means in practice for a supervised person and which instruments are engaged when.

This page covers the relationship after entry. For the entry itself — the full registration cycle — see our guide on [VASP licence in Georgia: NBG registration](https://legal.ge/en/service/technology-and-digital-law-en/vasp-license-georgia-nbg-requirements-cost).

### How is supervision exercised in practice?

In all three forms — instructions, inspections and sanctions. The most frequent instrument is the written instruction; an inspection may be on site or remote; a sanction, including a monetary fine, follows a violation.

### Can the Bank restrict activity?

Yes. Suspension or restriction of particular types of operations, including by types of virtual asset, is possible where the activity creates money-laundering or sanctions-circumvention risk, impedes traceability or supervision.

### What information may the Bank demand?

Any information, including confidential, as well as accounting documents and reporting components; also information on the sources of the origin of capital and on the owners of a significant share.

### Where do the requirements change?

The council of the Bank defines the main directions of supervision and regulation of the financial sector and issues legal acts; the requirements are born and changed in precisely these acts.
