ადამიანის გენის მოდიფიცირებისათვის განსაზღვრული ჩარევა დასაშვებია მხოლოდ დიაგნოსტიკის, მკურნალობის ან პრევენციის მიზნით და თუ იგი არ ითვალისწინებს პაციენტის შთამომავლობის გენომის შეცვლას.
