Examination Deadlines and Additional Requirements
The law fixes the deadlines precisely: the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Georgia's diplomatic representations abroad and consular posts decide on a short-term visa within 10 calendar days from the submission of the application, and a short-term electronic visa is issued no later than 5 working days. Where further verification of the application is needed, the short-term decision period may be extended by 30 calendar days. A decision on a long-term immigration visa is taken within 30 calendar days from submission, apart from the D5 category, for which a shorter period is set. A D4 application falls under this common 30-day period. In addition, the issuing organ may invite the applicant or his representative to an interview where necessary; in cases provided by legislation the alien is required to submit an invitation; and the circumstances to be confirmed and the documents to be attached are determined by a resolution of the Government of Georgia. A decision may also be taken under an expedited procedure in accordance with a legal act of the Government, which matters when family plans are tied to a strict timetable.
